I have returned to a country where everybody seems to have taken a kind of downer pill. Fuel prices are high, we have a slight electricity problem and then there were the xenophobic attacks. I would like to point out three things: compared to other African countries this is paradise and however bad things are we as South African will only become stronger and learn more character as a nation and the whole world seems to be doing slightly worse than usual so we are not alone. It is said to be darkest before the dawn and the only reason there are shadows is because actually the sun is shining. So stop moaning about everything and be grateful.
There was once an American called John F. kennedy who said something very true: "ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country". Now more than ever our country is only great because of what every single one of us do to make it so. Make a difference by concentrating and appreciating what we do have and do things like saving electricity. This is not a funeral after all; it might even be a rebirth!
Just before my return to South Africa I took this photo from the last base to which I was posted. The base is near the village of Kanyatse. Yes, I am back in SA and so is everybody else from my company. Thank you for the support I received from everybody. This blog is dedicated to you and be sure that many more posts will come this way. I am just waiting for my next adventure.
