I do not understand the US attitude towards firearms.

This photo says a lot.

In all other first world countries firearms are strictly controlled  in terms of possession, storage and where you may have them, but the US does not have any of these safeguards in place other than the executive order signed by Obama.

Why, after all of these mass shootings and deaths of children handling firearms does the USA still come out so strongly against firearm control? Do you think that you know better than the rest of the world?

President Trump ... really, America?

The whole world is surprised that the United States has elected climate-change denier Donald Trump as the new president of the US.

Here you have a man who displays a complete lack of respect for minorities, women and people in general and the USA, who has managed to put a man on the moon chooses him for their president. I am going to ask you what most people are thinking. What the hell were you thinking, America?

I would love to be wrong, but here you have a man who seems to do things on impulse if one looks at what he tweets on Twitter, wrt issues like nuclear arms policy and he clearly does not support issues like gun control (which is an international thing), he wants to place Muslims on a register and he wants to build a wall between the US and Mexico, not to mention his views on climate change.

Let's see what is going to happen during his term, but I foresee big tears in the USA. By the way, I hope you are preparing to call him "President Trump".

UN Resolution Condemns Israeli Settlements on Palestinian Land

After many years of protecting Israel the US abstained from a vote at the UN Security Council on Friday to allow a UN Resolution to be passed condemning the building of illegal Israeli Settlements in the Palestinian Territory.

In response Donald Trump Tweeted that after January 20 (his inauguration) things will change at the UN. I however fail to see how that will happen. The only way to change this is by passing another resolution in favour of Israel and hoping France, China, Russia, UK or the US do not veto it. Today those propagating for the Palestinian cause got a foot in the door.

The Israelis have responded by saying they would not abide by the resolution, which would be the best definition of a rogue state. I personally hope now they will have serious discussions with the Palestinians.

How does the US F-22 Compare to the Russian Pak-FA?

There is a new kid on the block as the Russian Pak-FA is being developed to take on and beat the US F-22 as king of the skies. How do they compare?

Weight empty:

F-22: 19 700kg
Pak-FA: 18 000kg (Lighter aircraft)

Dry thrust:

F-22: 11 700kg (More power)
Pak-FA: 11 000kg

Maximum speed:

F-22: Mach 2.25 (Faster)
Pak-FA: Mach 2

Range:

F-22: 2 960km
Pak-FA: 3 500km (Longer range)

Thrust to weight ratio:

F-22: 1.08.
Pak-FA: 1.16 (More)

Guns:

F-22: 1 × 20 mm M61A2 Vulcan 6-barrel rotary cannon in right wing root with a rate of fire of
6 000rpm.
Pak-FA: 1 × 30 mm 9A1-4071K (GSh-301) cannon in right LEVCON root with a rate of fire of
1 500 rpm. (Better because of its fire control system)

Other armamant:

F-22: Air to air mission loadout: 6 × AIM-120 AMRAAM, 2 × AIM-9 Sidewinder.
Pak-FA: Air to air loadout: 4 × K-77M or 4 × izdeliye 810, 2  × K-74M2 or 2 × izdeliye 300.

In the end the two aircraft compare quite well. The Pak-FA however is still in development so I cannot be sure of these figures. In the end the two aircraft are probably quite equal in capability. We will have to wait until the final Russian version is rolled out.

I might also add that the Cold War was lost because the Soviet Union could not match the US economically, but with Russia now following a capitalist system they have a lot of potential for growth. That means they may be able to match the US economically in the future. Time will tell.

Cognitive Dissonance

Cognitive Dissonance "protects" us from learning more, especially things that could change your life dramatically. But why?

We are all driven a lot by fear and it is this fear that stops us from undergoing change and without change, well, nothing changes. It is this kind of thinking that stops us from reforming modern society more effectively and quicker. Today we still live in a world that thinks chemo therapy is an effective answer for cancer and that money makes you happy. Neither really being the answer.

Cognitive Dissonance prevents scientists from seeing the importance of spirituality and it prevents religious people from asking the important questions.

Why is it like that? Is the world supposed to be divided or can a world without division where everybody agrees exist? That sounds almost impossible so maybe we are supposed to to kick against living in a perfect society.
